Oscar De La Hoya Clarifies Ryan Garcia's Next Opponent Amid Rumors

Oscar De La Hoya has ruled out a potential matchup between Ryan Garcia and Vergil Ortiz Jr., stating, "That’s just a misunderstanding." De La Hoya clarified that both fighters are on different career paths, despite Ortiz being linked to Garcia following his recent legal disputes with Golden Boy Promotions.

Garcia, who captured the WBC welterweight title in February by defeating Mario Barrios with a unanimous decision and a first-round knockdown, is now expected to face Conor Benn. Benn, who recently won a 10-round decision against Regis Prograis, has been installed as Garcia's mandatory challenger, although promotional and legal hurdles have delayed an official announcement.

Former champion Shane Mosley believes Garcia's speed and power will be decisive in a potential clash with Benn. Mosley stated, "I think that Ryan beats him because he is too fast and too strong for Conor Benn," suggesting that Garcia could secure a stoppage victory. He also noted that Benn lacks the extensive amateur background that Garcia possesses, which could be a critical factor in their matchup.

While Benn has not fought at welterweight since 2022, he remains a formidable contender. If the fight proceeds, it would mark Benn's first world title opportunity, adding further stakes to an already anticipated bout.
