Canelo Alvarez Targeted by KO Artist Lester Martinez Ahead of Upcoming Bout

Canelo Alvarez is set to challenge WBC super-middleweight champion Christian Mbilli later this year, marking his return to the ring after a defeat to Terence Crawford last September. Originally scheduled for September 12, the bout has been postponed to late October, meaning it will be over 13 months since Alvarez last fought.

If victorious against Mbilli, Alvarez may pursue additional world titles at 168lbs. However, he is also being targeted by Lester Martinez, the unbeaten WBC interim champion from Guatemala, who boasts a record of 20 wins, 1 draw, and 16 knockouts. Martinez, who trained alongside Crawford, expressed his desire to face the winner of the Canelo vs. Mbilli fight.

Martinez is scheduled to fight Luka Plantic on August 29 in Los Angeles and stated, “First and foremost I’m going to focus on the task at hand that’s Luka because he’s a very dangerous fighter... but of course I’m going to be watching with a close eye on the fight between Canelo and Mbilli.” Martinez previously fought Mbilli to a split decision draw and is eager for a lucrative opportunity against Alvarez.
